The International Congress Statistics for 2025 have been released by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
The ICCA statistics compile international meetings that attract at least 50 in-person participants and are held on a regular rotating basis in at least three countries. Bilateral meetings, government-related meetings, and meetings organized by the United Nations are excluded. The Sendai Convention Bureau provides information on meetings held in Sendai to ICCA for inclusion in these statistics.
Japan hosted 491 qualifying international meetings in 2025, representing a 15% increase compared with the previous year. Since the Third Basic Plan for the Promotion of Japan as a Tourism-Oriented Country adopted the number of international meetings meeting ICCA criteria as a key performance indicator in 2017, Japan has continued to strengthen its position in the global meetings industry. This year, Japan achieved its highest-ever ranking, placing 6th in the world for the first time.
In Sendai, a total of 11 international meetings meeting ICCA criteria were held during the year, including iSpaRo, a conference focused on space robotics. As a result, Sendai ranked 57th among Asian cities and 10th among cities in Japan.
