On Saturday, October 4, 2025, the FY2025 International Conference Volunteer Symposium was held for registered “convention supporter” volunteers of the Sendai Convention Bureau at the Exchange Experience Hall of Sendai Ryokusaikan Visitor Center.
This year’s symposium focused on the theme of “MICE and Volunteering in the Disaster-Resilient City of Sendai.” In the first session, a representative from the City of Sendai’s Inbound and MICE Promotion Office introduced the Tourism Resilience Summit, which was held in Sendai last year.
The second session featured a mini English conversation workshop titled “Disaster-Related English for MICE Events.” Participants learned key vocabulary related to disasters and weather, as well as differences in disaster response between Japan and Western countries. They then formed small groups to practice how to communicate in English with international conference participants in the event of a disaster.
Participants shared positive feedback such as:
“I was glad to learn many useful phrases for use during disasters.”
“It was helpful to practice concrete responses while imagining an actual emergency.”
We will continue to work together with our dedicated volunteers to strengthen Sendai’s support system for international conferences. Thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s symposium.
