The 60th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation Asia and Pacific Region (DGCA60) was successfully held in Sendai from July 28 to August 1, 2025. This important gathering welcomed aviation leaders from across the Asia-Pacific, with the Sendai Convention Bureau proud to contribute to the success of the event.
To ensure a smooth and memorable experience for all delegates, the Bureau implemented the following support measures:
Dispatching three volunteer interpreters to accompany participants on cultural tours.
Providing an English-native staff escort for the Executive City Tour, which included visits to a tsunami-affected elementary school, a historic sake brewery, and Matsushima, renowned as one of Japan’s “Three Most Scenic Spots.”
Setting up a welcome board at Sendai Airport to warmly greet participants upon arrival.
From the first welcome at the airport to opportunities for cultural immersion, every effort was made to showcase the hospitality and attractions of Sendai.
Sendai was selected as the host city not only for its capacity to meet the requirements of venue, accommodations, and accessibility, but also for its strong alignment with the conference theme: “The sustainable skies of the Asia-Pacific region: towards increased economic prosperity and social well-being by air transportation of people and goods in the region.”
As Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Delegation of Japan to the ICAO, Mr. Toshiyuki Onuma, noted:
“Sendai, Miyagi is home to Sendai Airport, the first in Japan to introduce airport concession for sustainable management, as well as the Aeronautical Safety College and the Civil Aviation College, which foster Next Generation Aviation Professionals (NGAP). It should also be remembered that all of these facilities suffered extensive damage from the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami 14 years ago, yet have remarkably recovered, symbolizing the resilience of civil aviation.” (Source: https://dgca60.mlit.go.jp)
