Japanese Cultural Activities Held at International Conference on Magnetics(Intermag)2023

新着情報 June 6th, 2023

At the International Conference on Magnetics (Intermag) 2023, held at the Sendai International Center from May 15 (Mon.) to 19 (Fri.), our association set up a booth for conference participants to experience traditional “Bonseki” art  (*1) and “My Chopsticks Making Workshop” (*2).

With many foreign participants, both the Bonseki and “My Chopstick Making Workshop” were very popular, and there was even a line of people waiting to try them out. Some of the participants came on both days saying, “I’m here again today!”, and some even came to the booth twice to make another pair of chopsticks from different materials.

The Sendai Tourism, Convention and International Association (SenTIA) will continue to support international conferences through these activities.

Date: Tuesday, May 16 (Bonseki experience), Wednesday, May 17 (My Chopstick Making Workshop)
Location: Sendai International Center, Exhibition Hall
Target Conference: International Conference on Magnetics (Intermag) 2023
Cooperation: Hosokawa-ryu Bonseki Fujinokai (Hosokawa-style Bonseki Wisteria Association), Sendai My Chopstick Making Workshop Group, and volunteers registered with our association which support international conferences.

*1. What is Bonseki?  Bonseki is a traditional Japanese art form in which white sand and stones are used to recreate a landscape on a black-lacquered tray.

*2. What is My Chopsticks Making Workshop? Participants choose their favorite material from several kinds of wooden sticks to make their own chopsticks. The wood used is waste wood, which is highly sustainable.
